Fire Hydrant Flushing Program

Fire hydrant flushing is necessary to ensure that adequate flow and pressure are available. Flushing also removes sediment and mineral deposits, which naturally begin building up in the mains over time. The removal is accomplished by “scouring” the mains by running water through them at high velocity and discharging it through fire hydrants.

The City will be performing fire hydrant flushing North of Sunset Blvd. beginning May 16, 2022 and concluding on May 31, 2022. Flushing will occur between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. A detailed schedule of fire hydrant flushing is available below.

If you have any questions or if you experience any persistent water quality problems as a result of this maintenance program, please let us know at AskPW@beverlyhills.org or call Public Works Customer Service at (310) 285-2467.

Fire hydrant flushing is the quick release of water from fire hydrants. It’s a controlled procedure vital to the general maintenance of the City’s water distribution system. It ensures adequate water flow is available to firefighters, residents, and businesses. It also improves water quality by clearing iron and other mineral deposits from the water mains.

Flushing will not interrupt your water service; however, it is common to see a temporary reduction in water pressure while crews work in your area. If pressure seems low after flushing is finished, check your faucet for trapped particles.

As we flush your area, you may experience a temporary reduction in water pressure and/or discoloration of the water. These conditions are normal during flushing activities and are only temporary. Please check your drinking, cooking, and laundry water before using it. To clear your water lines, turn on your cold water tap or outside hose bib and let it run until the water is clear.
